Robert De Niro's son nabs record-breaking, $120 million NYC listing

$120 Million ListingThe Upper East Side is in the news for something other than wife bonuses this week

The neighborhood is home to New York City's new most expensive listing: three identical limestone townhouses on East 62nd Street between Fifth and Madison, available for the package price of $120 million.

Sabrina Saltiel and Raphael De Niro (son of actor Robert De Niro), of Douglas Elliman Real Estate, hold the listing for the six-story triplets that extend 73 feet along 62nd Street.

Since all three units share a cornice line, they've been combined to create the ultimate UES mansion.

But, as the listing notes, the 30,000-square-foot property could easily be transformed into an embassy, club, or retail space.

$120 million listing

Inside you'll find a whopping 23 fireplaces — some with original mantels — grand staircases, hand-carved wood paneling, an elevator, and, in two of the homes, skylights on the fifth floor.

Combined, there are 11 terraces, two of which are double-tiered and located on the rooftop.

$120 lisiting terrace

Breen & Nason Architects built the townhouses in 1879, but they were restored just recently, in 2001, by Joseph Pell Lombardi Architects.

Saltiel told The Wall Street Journal that the triplets all belong to the same entity, but she kept mum on the name of the owner

It's rumored that the properties are linked to the Safra banking dynasty.

$120 million listing

The current resident also owns the $35 million brownstone that's for sale next door. While it can't be combined with the triplets, the 9,520-square-foot space would serve as a perfect guesthouse.

Feast your eyes on Eothen, which is Greek for "from the east."

The family behind Arm & Hammer baking soda built the estate back in the '30s as a mere fishing camp.

Now, for $85 million, the Montauk stunner can be yours. Douglas Elliman's Ronald White and Paul Brennan hold the listing.

J. Crew CEO Mickey Drexler bought the 30-acre, oceanfront property for $27 million in 2007.

Eight years later, the compound — which includes six cottages restored by architect Thierry Despont — is back on the market for more than triple its selling price.

But even at the bloated listing price, who wouldn't want to live here?

Bjarke Ingels isn't a household name yet. But you probably know his buildings.

The Danish starchitect's
international architecture firm, Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), recently snagged the 2 World Trade Center commission.

On the heels of his big get, Ingels has acquired some fancy new digs: a gorgeous penthouse in Dumbo, Brooklyn.

The apartment has four private terraces with jaw-dropping city views — so Ingels can watch his 2 WTC masterpiece rise.

BIG has designed some of the world's most lauded buildings, including Google's new 60-acre headquarters in Mountainview, California.

Karen Heyman of Sotheby's International Realty closed the deal in Dumbo. Oren Alexander and Tal Alexander of Douglas Elliman represented the buyer.

If the penthouse at 250 Water Street in the exclusive Brooklyn neighborhood of Dumbo looks like it was decorated by an interior designer, that's because it was.

The previous owners were Athena and Victor Calderone — an interior designer and music producer, respectively.

The Calderones bought the penthouse in 2009 for $2.9 million. The apartment went on the market this January for $4.3 million. It underwent a series of price cuts before Ingels finally pulled the trigger at $3.9 million.

After 32 years of headaches, David Geffen may sell his massive Malibu beach house

David Geffen Malibu Mansion

Malibu, California might be losing one of its saltiest residents.

As reported by Variety, film and music industry mogul David Geffen is quietly selling his "Billionaire Beach" compound for $100 million.

The estate — which once belonged to Doris Day — comprises five parcels of land first bought in 1970 and 1999. Geffen combined them to make two gigantic homes, complete with a swimming pool, screening room, and privacy hedges aplenty.

Of course, there's no public listing for this infamous property. It's currently being "shopped" to the pre-screened clients of one of LA's "preeminent brokers," Variety reports.

This secretive style is certainly Geffen's signature. The reclusive billionaire has had many squabbles with the public interest, the main bone of contention being the fact that California law requires all beaches be accessible to the public.

In 1983, Geffen applied for a permit to build a new house on the properties he'd had conjoined, according to the California Planning & Development Report. The permit required the dedicating of a "vertical easement" (aka a sidewalk-to-shore pathway) for public use. Before the permit was even approved, Geffen went ahead with construction and the pathway was built and blocked with a locked gate.

David Geffen Public Beach Access Point

By 2002, the State of California's Coastal Commission and Coastal Conservancy and Access for All public agencies finally agreed to his proposal, but Geffen and the City of Malibu sued to stop the public from using it, alleging Access for All's acceptance of the permit was illegal and unconstitutional. Geffen dropped the suit before a second circut court ruled against him, and the gate was unlocked.

Geffen has also agreed to "lateral easements" (taking some of his land away in the rear of the property and offering it to the beach) in exchange for permission to build "privacy buffers."

He's even gone so far as to install gigantic hedges in front of the property and, allegedly, build fake garages to prevent the public from parking in front of his house.
