America's most expensive home for sale just got a gigantic price chop

9505 Lania lane house of the day

When real estate mogul Jeff Greene listed his Beverly Hills mansion in November 2014 for $195 million, it was the most expensive home for sale in the US.

Later, he decided to try and rent it $475,000 a month.

After nearly a year, it seems Greene is tired of hanging on to the property and is chopping the price by $46 million.

Called "Palazzo di Amore," Greene's home was built for parties. It has an entertainment complex and ballroom, a private-label vineyard, and parking garages for more than two dozen cars. According to a statement, the house was "eight years of hard work" and Greene is selling it because the East Coast is now his base of operations.

"It is, quite simply, impossible to recreate and one of a kind,” Greene said in the statement.

With its new $149 million asking price, the home is still the most expensive public listing in America. Greene made a fortune when the real estate bubble burst in Greece and is worth about $3.2 billion, according to Forbes.

Joyce Rey and Stacy Gottula of Coldwell Banker Previews International have the listing.

The Palazzo di Amore is not your ordinary mansion. It's a true party palace, with space to entertain 1,000 guests.

Visitors pass through three sets of gates before arriving at the grand home. The two-story entry has a pair of curved marble staircases.

The 15,000-square-foot "entertainment complex" is what sets this home apart. It has a ballroom with a revolving floor and can host 250 for a seated dinner.

Former Apple executive Michael Barnick spent millions building his dream house.

He started designing the contemporary home with a bevy of automated features in 2005, according to The Wall Street Journal.

But by the time it was completed — just a few weeks ago — he no longer needed the 10,000-square-foot mansion, as his kids are all grown up.

Located in Santa Barbara, California, the home is listed for $35 million, but Barnick told the Journal he only spent $30 million on it. Suzanne Perkins of Suzanne Perkins Realty has the listing.

Though he didn't live in the home, Barnick definitely made use of it. The design process taught him so much about home automation that he went on to found Quantum Integration, a company that installs smart home systems.

Caitlyn Jenner just gave her living room and bedroom a makeover, with a little help from New York-based interior designer Lori Margolis.

"Caitlyn always lived in beautiful houses, but designing them was Kris Jenner’s domain — Caitlyn wasn’t really involved," Margolis told Architectural Digest in an exclusive interview.

"This time, she really wanted to put her personal stamp on the house.”

And that's exactly what she did.

Her monochrome living room boasts a custom, 12-foot-long Homenature sofa — her favorite piece in the home. It fits both her 6-foot-2-inch stature and her large extended family.

The lounge chairs are also custom-tailored with Tibetan lamb's wool from Loft Thirteen for ultimate comfort.

According to Margolis, Jenner wanted her home to represent both her style and journey. "She wanted something soft and feminine, but also something that has strength."

After a 17-month contract period, the most expensive home ever sold in Miami has finally closed — for a whopping $60 million. That's $10 million over the asking price of $50 million.

The 12,516-square-foot penthouse in the 18-story Faena Housecondominium tower sits on Miami Beach's widest stretch of white sand.

It was developed and built by Argentina's Faena Group and contains just 47 residences. But the penthouse is by far the most luxurious.

Faena House Penthouse

The glass-walled apartment has a five bedrooms, two custom kitchens, and exclusive access to a private elevator.

There's also a media room, great room, dressing room, and 70-foot infinity pool on the 9,900-square-foot, Brazilian-style terrace, known as an "Alero."

tom cruise hollywood hillsTom Cruise has reportedly sold his Hollywood Hills compound for $1.6 million under the asking price.

The gated, European-style villa, which was listed in March for $13 million, is said to have closed at $11.4 million, which is slightly less than the actor paid for it.

According to Variety, it's rumored that Cruise used the 2.5 acre property as a retreat for high-level Scientologists. Recently, Cruise's sister was living on the property.

The estate comprises two parcels of land with a main house and guest house. The latter was purchased by Cruise for $1.8 million shortly after he bought the main property in 2005 for $9.85 million, bringing the total to $11.65 million, not including any home improvements Cruise may have made.

The movie star seems to be undergoing a real estate overhaul. In November of last year he listed his Colorado estate for $59 million, and back in 2013 he listed his New York townhouse for $28 million, as well as an East Village condo for $3 million. He currently lives in a Beverly Hills mansion he bought for $30.5 million in 2007, according to Variety.

Michael Jordan's lavish 56,000-square-foot compound has sat on the market for nearly three years. And it seems the basketball superstar and his real-estate agents have had enough.

Price cuts have not helped. It was listed in 2012 with a selling a price of nearly $29 million and is now down to roughly half that: $14.855 million. It had previously been available at auction twice, but no one picked it up.

The new strategy is a massive promo campaign with a glitzy website and Hollywood-style commercials for the property. The marketing materials include references to its famous owner, suggesting that the property is just as legendary as Jordan himself.

Only time will tell if the renewed campaign will move the needle on interest for the nine-bedroom property, which is in the affluent Chicago suburb of Highland Park, Illinois.
