HOUSE OF THE DAY: Russian Mogul Roman Abramovich Is Spending $75 Million On A Fifth Avenue Mansion

Roman Abramovich fifth avenue new york city penthouse $75 millionRussian billionaire Roman Abramovich is reportedly buying a big chunk of a gorgeous Fifth Avenue mansion, and is on his way to owning the entire building.

Abramovich is in contract to buy three of the five apartments in the building at 828 Fifth Avenue from the family of late British real estate developer Howard Ronson for $75 million, reports Jennifer Gould Keil at The New York Post.

If the deal closes at that price, it would soar past the current $54 million record for a co-op in the city, according to The Real Deal.

He's also reportedly in talks with other owners in the building to buy out their co-ops as well, and wants to restore the mansion to its former glory, reports Julie Strickland at the New York Observer.

The late owner Ronson dreamed of buying up all of the building's apartments to recreate the single-family mansion that once stood there. He passed away in 2007, and his family put his holdings in the building on the market for $72 million, which included the penthouse, a triplex, and a duplex apartment.

The eight-bedroom co-op is an interesting mix of classic and modern with tall ceilings and eight bedrooms. There's even a rooftop terrace that looks out over Central Park.

The Manhattan townhouse sits directly across from Central Park Zoo.

It's currently divided up into five units. Abramovich is in contract to buy three.

He's hoping to buy the other two and create a single-family mansion.

Wooldon Manor vince camuto house

Well, that was fast.

Back in July, shoe powerhouse Vince Camuto and his former beauty queen wife listed their historic Southampton estate for a staggering $48 million.

Someone obviously thought the home, known as Wooldon Manor, was worth the exorbitant ticket price because the 113-year-old property is in contract after only three months, The Real Deal reported in early October.

The gorgeous mansion has approximately 10,000 square feet of space, and sits on over five acres of land with views of the Atlantic Ocean and Lake Agawam. It was represented by Sotheby's International Realty in the sale.

The estate — which has a gorgeous pool, pool house, formal gardens, a romantic green house, and tennis court — was previously owned by both the Woolworth family and Edmund Lynch, a founding partner of Merrill Lynch. Though it has been expanded and added upon by residents, the exterior and style of the home has remained constant for over a century.

According to celebrity real estate blog The Real Estalker, the Camutos redecorated the famous home after purchasing the 14.29 acres of land it sits on. The original $48 million price included the home plus five and a quarter acres of land — no word yet if the individual(s) who are in contract to purchase the home are also buying the nine additional acres Camuto and his wife own.

Take A Peek Inside Kurt Cobain's Childhood Home, Which Looks Just Like It Did When He Lived There

$

The house that Kurt Cobain lived in for 14 years has hit the market with a $500,000. price tag

Located in Aberdeen, Wash., the late musician's childhood home is still largely preserved, with some of Cobain's belongings still in place. The singer lived here from when he was a baby until the age of nine, and again from  ages 16 to 20.

Upstairs in his bedroom, there are even posters and drawings that were left by the Nirvana singer himself. The garage, according to the listing, was where Cobain and Krist Novoselic practiced when they first got a band together in the 1980s.

The home has four bedrooms, and is approximately 1,500 square feet. His mother Kim Cobain is selling the bungalow through real estate listing website The Agency, and they're hoping the buyer will turn the home into some sort of museum for the late singer:

There are a number of exciting possibilities for the historic property, including renovation, moving the building and incorporating it into a larger institution or private collection or creating a museum in Aberdeen or elsewhere (provided the necessary consent is obtained). The family has photos of Kurt throughout his life in the home and would be willing to share a few select copies with the purchaser.

Many rock legend homes have been turned into destination landmarks and restored to look as they did when the musician(s) grew up there. This has been done with the early homes of John Lennon, Paul McCartney and more recently, Johnny Cash. Notable homes like Kurt Cobain’s can also be used as vacation rentals, such as the last home Jim Morrison owned in Hollywood.

Check out images from the listing below.

According to the listing, the home hasn't been changed much since Cobain was growing up here.

Comedian Steve Martin's villa in St. Barth just hit the market for $10.75 million, according to The Telegraph.

The Colonial-style house, called Villa Au Soleil, has an open plan with four bedrooms and a separate dining room. It also has a two-tiered infinity pool, a handful of sun terraces, and 180-degree views of St. Jean Bay. The property came furnished, and Martin made very few changes.

"Myself and my family have had a fantastic few years at the villa," Martin told The Telegraph, "We will be sad to say goodbye."

Martin used the villa for annual vacations and rented it out during the off-season, according to Tom Smyth, the point person in the sale of Martin's villa through the St. Barth Properties division of Sotheby's International Realty

It shouldn't be too hard for Martin to find another buyer. The real estate market on this six-mile-wide Caribbean island is experiencing an uptick, and the local government allows little new construction to preserve it as a luxurious hideaway, which keeps it popular among celebrities like Jay Z, Beyonce and Sir Paul McCartney.

Steve Martin's villa sits at the top of the mountain in Lurin.

The villa has an open plan leading first to the living room.

Purple House 3

A four-bedroom family home in Hillingdon, outside London, may look unassuming on the outside.

But step inside, and it's a different story. The walls are painted lavender, with alcoves done in a deeper shade of purple. Matching plush carpets line the floors, even in the kitchen and bathroom, where purple carpeting climbs the side of the tub.

The home just hit the market through the estate agent R Whitley & Co., which apparently didn't see the all-purple, all-the-time color scheme as a selling point. It instead opted to describe the property as a simple "family inspired design."

This purple haze can be yours for the relatively affordable price of 400,000 pounds ($644,120).

This semi-detached family home in Hillingdon looks pretty normal from the outside.

We discovered where some of the most famous faces in Brooklyn call home, from the Williamsburg waterfront all the way down to Windsor Terrace below Prospect Park.

Villersexel 3Château de Villersexel, a French castle that was once the home of the noble Grammont family, is on the market at a $17.1 million asking price, The Wall Street Journal reports.

According to the owner, Baron Jean-Pierre Potet, the castle was destroyed twice: once in the year 1000 and again in 1871, during a battle of the Franco-Prussian War. When the Marquis de Grammont left the estate to fight in World War II, French civilians looted the castle, taking nearly all of its furnishings.

Using old photos as an aid, Potet was able to recover most of the original decor from nearby antique stores. The 38,000-square-foot chateau has an astounding 30 bedrooms and 15  bathrooms and is being sold with all of its historic furnishings intact. The 74-acre property also includes horse stables and a working farm.

La Habra mansion teens broke into

In what sounds like the craziest party ever, a bunch of California teens allegedly broke into a multi-million dollar mansion, invited all their friends, and stole $1 million worth of stuff after trashing the home, according to KTLA 5 News.

The break-in reportedly took place in November, when the homeowner was out of town. High  school students supposedly noticed that the home, which was for sale, was empty and announced a party in the mansion's backyard on Twitter, Lt. Arthur Scott of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Industry Station said in a press conference yesterday.

The teens allegedly trashed the house and stole more than $1 million in property, including a stuffed snow leopard, suit of armor, scuba gear, and multiple Versace suits, KTLA 5 News reports.

So far, 14 minors and one 18-year-old adult have been arrested for allegedly breaking into the gated home last month.

The five bedroom home in the La Habra Heights neighborhood is currently listed on real estate website Redfin for just under $7 million, where it's described as a "European inspired masterpiece." It definitely looks like the perfect place to throw an illegal party.
